How I work – pluralistic counselling in Stroud

I am a pluralistic and person-centred therapist. This means therapy is flexible and collaborative.

You are the expert in your own life. My role is to guide you towards discovering new ways of responding to life’s difficulties. Sometimes this will mean gently challenging you.

Some people come to therapy with a clear sense of what they want to work on. Others arrive feeling uncertain, overwhelmed or unsure where to begin. Both are fine.

What is pluralistic therapy?

Pluralistic therapy simply means being open to different therapeutic approaches rather than working from a single fixed method.

Everyone is different and just because one person had success with a type of therapy doesn’t mean the next person will. That is why I prefer a pluralistic approach. It is a collaborative process and we figure out what works – and, importantly, what doesn’t – together. (Sometimes finding the ‘nos’ is easier than finding the ‘yeses’!)

I will ask questions, we will reflect on how the work is progressing, and together we will identify what feels most useful and supportive for you.

Gaining clarity

If you arrive feeling anxious, angry, overwhelmed and/or unsure of what you want, that is totally ok and normal. Often, through thoughtful conversation, things begin to unfold and become clearer in time.
